Amaechi Criticized for Clash with Sowore at NBA Conference

Tópẹ́ Tèmókùn, a legal practitioner, criticized Rotimi Amaechi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, following a verbal clash with Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, at the 66th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Rivers State. Tèmókùn contended that Amaechi's dismissal of Sowore's views based on political experience was misplaced, noting that both individuals have decades of involvement in Nigeria's public affairs.

Amaechi, 61, has spent approximately 39 years in politics, serving as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, governor, and Minister of Transportation. Sowore, 55, has nearly four decades of public activism, beginning with student activism and later gaining prominence through journalism and civic campaigns.

Tèmókùn emphasized that the critical issue is not merely the length of experience but the outcomes achieved during that time. He criticized Amaechi's comment during the NBA session, where he told Sowore to "close your mouth" while politicians were speaking, arguing that longevity in political office should not be an automatic qualification without assessing the results of that experience.
