Lawyers Rescue Abandoned Infant from Shrine in Rivers

On Tuesday, June 14, 2026, Tamunoibuemi Life Georg, the chairperson of FIDA Rivers State, disclosed that a two-week-old male infant was abandoned in front of a local shrine in Abua Odual Local Government Area, Rivers State. The incident was reported to FIDA by a good Samaritan, prompting immediate intervention to ensure the infant's safety.

Preliminary findings indicated that the infant's mother, a young woman, left the child due to a lack of provisions, while the infant's paternal grandfather allegedly discarded the baby at the shrine. The infant was taken to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital for medical assessment and is currently stable but requires ongoing medical evaluation and support.
