TETFund Urges Female Architects to Address Housing Deficit

Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), called on female architects to spearhead research aimed at addressing Nigeria's housing deficit and reducing the country's dependence on imported building materials. This appeal was made during a courtesy visit from the leadership of the Female Architects of Nigeria (FAN) at TETFund's headquarters in Abuja.

Echono emphasized that TETFund is prepared to support research and innovation that leads to affordable, aesthetically pleasing, and climate-responsive housing solutions. He expressed concern that nearly 80% of building materials in Nigeria are imported, which he deemed unsustainable.

He highlighted the need for research into locally sourced materials to transform the building industry and create jobs. Echono also announced a National Research Fair scheduled for November at Eagle Square, Abuja, encouraging architects to showcase their innovations.

Ene Agada, Chair of FAN, praised Echono for his contributions to education and presented him with the FAN Award of Excellence for his support of female architects.
