League of Imams Rejects Unauthorized Islamic Titles

The League of Imams and Alfas in Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta States issued a statement disowning the unauthorized conferment of Islamic chieftaincy titles by individuals and self-serving groups. The statement, signed by Sheikh Jamiu Kewulere, the President of the League and Chief Imam of Ekiti State, cautioned the public, traditional institutions, and government authorities against recognizing these titles.

The League expressed concern over a trend of fraudulent title conferments that mimic historically established honors. They clarified that no individual or group has been authorized to confer titles on behalf of the League without written approval from its supreme council.

The League emphasized that regional Islamic chieftaincy titles were created to honor distinguished Muslim leaders and community contributors. They listed verified titleholders, including Ambassador Sharafa Ishola as the current Baba Adinni of Yorubaland and Alhaji Daud Akinola as the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, among others.
