IATC Nullifies Titles of Benue Deputy Speaker Ogenyi

The Idoma Area Traditional Council (IATC) has annulled chieftaincy titles conferred on Chief Mrs Lami Danladi Ogenyi, the Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, and others. This decision follows the conferment of the title “Ene Ebo Y’Agila” on August 29, 2026, by the Agila Akpoge-Ogbilolo Ward Traditional Council.

In an official release dated September 1, 2026, the IATC stated that this action violated a prior declaration made on September 2, 2025, and contravened the authority vested in the Och’Idoma under the Benue State Chieftaincy Law of 2016, as amended. The IATC declared all affected titles “annulled, void, and of no legal, customary, or traditional effect.” Additionally, it withdrew titles from any holders who participated in the “pseudo conferment” and directed the public and government institutions to disregard these titles.

The IATC emphasized its role as the legally recognized traditional authority within the Idoma nation, warning against actions contrary to its directives.
