Nigerian Government Signs MoU for Major Road Projects

The Nigerian government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hitech Africa Limited to undertake significant infrastructure projects aimed at improving the country's road network. The projects include the Calabar-Ebonyi-Abuja Superhighway, which spans the borders of Ebonyi, Benue, Kogi, and Nasarawa states, as well as the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, described the signing as a milestone for transforming Nigeria's infrastructure sector. He commended the contractors for their professionalism and commitment to adhering to engineering specifications and timelines.

Umahi disclosed that the average cost per kilometer for the standard dual carriageway remains competitive despite complex engineering requirements. The federal government will provide 30 percent of the counterpart funding for the projects, which will be funded through structured arrangements, with tolls anticipated to ensure sustainable returns on investment.

Dani Abboud, Managing Director of Hitech Africa Limited, assured the government that the projects would be completed within a 36-month timeline.
