Nigerian Senate Order Paper 27 January 2026: Bills & Motions
On Tuesday, 27th January 2026, the Nigerian Senate scheduled four new bills for first reading alongside two urgent motions covering ecological degradation in Edo State and a collapsed bridge in Anambra State. Lawmakers also planned to consider a committee report on three citizen petitions against federal agencies including the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigeria Police Force.
The Nigerian Senate sat on Tuesday, 27th January 2026, with a busy agenda spanning new legislation, citizen petitions, and calls for emergency federal intervention.
Four bills were listed for first reading. These include the National Economic Coordinating and Intelligence Committee Bill, 2026, sponsored by Sen. Olugbenga Daniel of Ogun East; an amendment to the National Centre for Economic Management Act, sponsored by Sen. Shehu Kaka of Borno Central; a Veterinary Teaching Hospitals Bill from Sen. Mohammed Monguno of Borno North; and a Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management (Enforcement) Bill from Sen. Mohammed Ndume of Borno South.
On motions, Sen. Joseph Ikpea of Edo Central urged the Senate to push federal agencies — including the Ecological Fund Office and NEMA — to address severe gully erosion and deforestation across Esan Land in Edo State. Sen. Emmanuel Nwachukwu of Anambra South called for rehabilitation of the Okija Spur Road, where a bridge collapsed in March 2025, cutting off several communities.
The Senate also scheduled consideration of a committee report covering petitions from three Nigerians against the Energy Commission of Nigeria, the Nigeria Customs Service, and the Nigeria Police Force respectively.
