Nigerian Senate Order Paper 3 February 2026: Bills & Motions

The Nigerian Senate sat on Tuesday, 3rd February 2026, with a packed agenda covering health legislation, constitutional changes, electoral reform, and an environmental emergency.

Five bills were listed for first reading. Senate Leader Michael Opeyemi Bamidele sponsored three healthcare-related bills: one to amend the Federal Medical Centres Act, one to establish a National Specialty Hospitals Management Board, and one to amend the Orthopedic Hospitals Management Board Act. A bill to establish an Institute of Technology and Innovation in Paiko, Niger State, was also introduced, alongside a bill to alter the 1999 Constitution, sponsored by Sen. Sunday Steve Karimi of Kogi West.

On committee reports, senators were set to consider the confirmation of Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole as a Supreme Court Justice, and a report recommending action on a bill to repeal and replace the Electoral Act 2022.

A motion by Sen. Joseph Ikpea of Edo Central drew attention to worsening gully erosion across Esan Land, citing specific sites in Esan Central, Esan West, and Ekpoma where roads, farmlands, and university infrastructure are being destroyed. The Senate resolved to urge the Ecological Fund Office, NEMA, NEWMAP, and the Federal Ministry of Environment to begin urgent assessments and interventions.
