Leicester City has faced a significant setback in its fight against relegation after losing an appeal against a six-point deduction imposed for breaching financial rules. The independent commission's ruling, which was upheld by the appeal board, leaves the club with five games left in the 2023-2024 season, staring down the prospect of relegation.

The original charges stemmed from an investigation by the Premier League in May 2025 regarding the club's financial conduct, particularly concerning profit sustainability regulations. The appeal board, chaired by Lord Dyson and including Sir Gari Hickinbottom and Daniel Alexander KC, rejected Leicester's arguments for overturning the sanction.

The club's financial losses during the assessment period exceeded the permissible threshold, further complicating its situation as it now finds itself near the bottom of the EFL Championship table, with safety slipping away.
