Leicester City Loses Appeal Against Points Deduction

Leicester City has lost its appeal against a six-point deduction imposed by the English Football League (EFL) for breaching financial rules. The independent commission's decision, announced on February 5, 2025, has seen the club drop from 17th to 20th place, putting them in the relegation zone, one point adrift of safety with five games remaining in the season.

The initial charge relates to the club's financial conduct during the 2023-24 season, specifically breaching the Profit and Sustainability Rule (PSR). Leicester argued that the case should consider a 36-month period rather than 37 months, which they claimed caused delays in submitting accounts.

Despite this, the commission found them guilty of overspending by £8 million above the £83 million limit. Following the announcement of the penalty, Leicester appointed Garry Rowett as their new interim head coach until the end of the season, as the club faces an uphill battle for survival after winning only one of their last 12 competitive matches.
