Lekjaa to Resign as Moroccan FA President for Politics

Faouzi Lekjaa, the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) since 2014, is anticipated to step down from his position to enter politics, specifically to join Morocco’s Party of Authenticity and Modernity (PAM) and contest in the parliamentary elections scheduled for September 23, 2026. His resignation would conclude a successful tenure marked by substantial advancements in Moroccan football, including infrastructure development, youth programs, and international competition successes.

Under his leadership, Morocco hosted major continental tournaments and achieved a historic semi-final appearance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, becoming the first African and Arab nation to do so. Additionally, Lekjaa oversaw Morocco's successful bid to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal.

Although there has been no official confirmation regarding his resignation from the FRMF, preparations for his departure are reportedly underway, signaling a significant transition in Moroccan football administration.
