Lagos Police Chief Calls for Community Safety Collaboration

During a stakeholders' security meeting held in Ikeja, Lagos, on Thursday, Police Commissioner Fatai Tijani emphasized the need for closer collaboration between security agencies and residents to strengthen safety and preserve peace across the state. He noted that effective policing goes beyond law enforcement, highlighting the critical role the public plays in maintaining order and preventing crime.

Tijani explained that the week-long activities aim to foster trust and improve community-police partnerships. He announced that the National Police Day will be observed on April 7, with various programs designed to promote awareness and deepen public involvement in security matters.

Tijani urged residents to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities, stressing that public information is vital for crime prevention. He raised concerns about increasing social vices, particularly cult-related activities among youth, and called on parents and community leaders to guide young people.

Additionally, he cautioned against electoral violence as the country prepares for election cycles and reassured residents of adequate security measures ahead of the Easter celebrations.
