Rivers Communities Celebrate Power Restoration After 10 Years

Chima Njoku, the Local Government Council Chairman of Etche in Rivers State, has successfully restored electricity to 40 communities that had experienced a decade-long blackout. This initiative is part of a campaign to electrify 100 communities within three clans: Okehi, Mba, and Ozuzu.

The restoration of power was achieved through an agreement with Aba Power, a new electricity distribution company based in Abia State, after persistent pressure on the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) and the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). Edis Ekong, a senior brand manager at Aba Power, confirmed the development, stating that the communities will enjoy uninterrupted power supply unless affected by local issues.

The restoration is expected to significantly improve the quality of life and economic prospects in the area, which has not seen electricity for eight years. Local leaders, including Amadi Akujiobi and Ez Nick Ordu, have expressed their appreciation for the restoration and urged for further electrification efforts.
