FMLD and USDA Strengthen Partnership for Poultry Growth

The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development (FMLD) is committed to enhancing its collaboration with the USDA Food for Progress Nigeria Programme to boost poultry and aquaculture productivity across Nigeria. This partnership was reaffirmed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Chinyere Ijeoma Akujobi, during a meeting with USDA Food for Progress Nigeria's delegation, led by Mr. Andrew Musa, on 6th August 2026 in Abuja.

Dr. Akujobi emphasized the significance of this collaboration in advancing the Federal Government’s livestock transformation agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda. The Ministry has developed key policy frameworks such as the National Livestock Growth Acceleration Strategy (NL-GAS) and the Livestock Master Plan to guide sector priorities.

Dr. Akujobi proposed establishing a joint technical working group for effective project implementation and stressed the importance of addressing Nigeria’s informal poultry sector and enhancing trade facilitation through improved sanitary and phytosanitary systems. The Ministry has also automated its veterinary certification processes to improve efficiency and collaboration with border control agencies.
