FMLD Hosts Workshop to Boost Private Veterinary Practice

On August 10, 2026, the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development (FMLD) organized a Zonal Workshop in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, aimed at strengthening private veterinary practice in Nigeria. The workshop gathered stakeholders from the South-South geopolitical zone, including private veterinary practitioners, veterinary professionals, regulators, and development partners.

Dr. Yakubu Yanet Ago, the Chief Veterinary Officer of Nigeria and Programme Coordinator of Veterinary Services, represented Hon. Idi Mukhtar Maiha, the Honourable Minister of Livestock Development. He emphasized the Ministry's commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, focusing on transforming the livestock sector.

The workshop aimed to improve service delivery, enhance disease surveillance, and foster collaboration between public and private sectors. Ms. Mercy Dangogo Iboroma, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture in Rivers State, welcomed participants and highlighted the State Government's dedication to developing the livestock sector for economic empowerment and food sufficiency.
