Marcos Llorente Retires from Spain National Team Post-WC

Marcos Llorente, a 31-year-old midfielder, has officially retired from the Spanish national football team following Spain's triumph in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Llorente has been a part of the national squad since November 2020 under coach Luis Enrique, making 27 appearances.

He participated in the 2020, 2022, and 2026 editions of the FIFA World Cup, as well as Euro 2020, where Spain reached the semi-finals. During the 2026 World Cup, he played three matches, including a substitute appearance in the opening group stage against Cape Verde and a match against Uruguay.

Llorente announced his decision on his personal Instagram, stating he reflected on his age and acknowledged that while he could continue playing, he prioritized his physical and mental well-being. He had previously mentioned that football no longer represented his life, indicating a shift in his personal priorities.
