Zakari Inspires New Generation of Skaters in Lagos

Samuel ‘Kaizer/Ziggy’ Zakari, a 31-year-old professional skateboarder, is cultivating a new generation of skaters in Lagos through his coaching and management agency, Super Glider House. He hosts weekly youth coaching clinics at WAF Skatepark, Nigeria's first dedicated public concrete skatepark, which opened in 2024.

Zakari began skateboarding in 2010, learning from YouTube tutorials and practicing secretly at night. He has since connected with fellow creatives and views skateboarding as a form of therapy.

Zakari is mentoring young talents like 16-year-old Joseph Omojuwa, whom he helped equip with necessary gear. Omojuwa has trained diligently and won a gold medal in a Francophone Youth Skate Competition, later participating in an international Adidas advertising campaign.

This year, Team Nigeria Skateboarding was founded, and Zakari believes the new generation of skaters has opportunities that were unavailable to earlier generations.
