Local Informants Complicate Nigeria's Fight Against Terrorism

On Friday, during the 2026 edition of the Nigeria Annual National Discourse, Defence Minister Christoph Musa highlighted the challenges faced in combating terrorism and banditry in Nigeria. He noted that local informants are providing critical support to criminal groups, complicating efforts by security agencies to eliminate these threats.

Musa pointed out that the fight against insecurity is hindered by the local populace's support for terrorists, who receive food, water, and logistical assistance from community members. He stressed that the Nigerian Armed Forces' success is limited without active citizen cooperation and urged Nigerians to unite against divisive elements that terrorists exploit.

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki also spoke at the event, emphasizing the importance of an independent legislature to sustain democracy and ensure government accountability, warning against a legislature that merely acts as a rubber stamp for executive proposals.
