Diezani Alison-Madueke Faces Bribery Charges in London Trial

Diezani Alison-Madueke, the former Nigerian Petroleum Minister, is on trial in London for allegedly accepting bribes during her time in office from 2011 to 2015. The prosecution accuses her of living a luxurious life funded by bribes she allegedly received while serving in the government.

Alison-Madueke, who was also the first female president of OPEC, faces multiple bribery charges related to her tenure as Nigeria's Petroleum Minister under former President Goodluck Jonathan. The court heard that she allegedly received benefits from individuals connected to Atlantic Energy, SPDC, and other companies, including cash, chauffeur-driven vehicles, private jet flights, and property refurbishments.

The charges include accepting bribes in the form of school fees for her son, luxury items, and high-end retail purchases. The trial, presided over by Justice Justin Thornton, is expected to conclude by April 24.
