Labour Party Schedules Congress for April 28, 2026

The Labour Party has officially notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding its congress timetable for the 2026 elections, as outlined in a letter dated March 31, 2026, from Ken Asogwa, the interim national chairman. The party's congress will commence with ward congresses on April 23, followed by local government congresses on April 24, and state congresses on April 25.

The national convention is set for April 28, 2026, at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, Abia State. This notification is in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 and the amended guidelines of INEC.

The Labour Party aims to facilitate broader participation among its members, particularly through the ongoing digital membership registration process. The congress is expected to reshape the party's internal structure and power dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
