Labour Party Zones Presidential Ticket to South for 2027

Nenadi Usman, a prominent figure in the Labour Party, declared that the party has officially zoned its presidential ticket to the South in preparation for the 2027 elections. This announcement was made during a meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, following consultations with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Usman stated that the party will not accept any candidates from Northern Nigeria for the presidential position, reinforcing the party's commitment to internal democracy. She emphasized that the selection process will be determined by the votes during the primaries, ensuring that the candidate who wins will represent the party.

Additionally, Usman mentioned a legal case filed in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, against the national caretaker committee, which was dismissed for lack of merit. The Labour Party's upcoming congress is scheduled to begin on Thursday, March 26, and Usman hinted at potential adjustments to accommodate new members, stressing the importance of not disenfranchising those seeking to join the party.
