Labour Party Aims for 50,000 Members in Nasarawa

The Labour Party (LP) in Nasarawa State has commenced an electronic registration process targeting 50,000 new members across the state's 13 local government areas. State chairman Alexand Ombugu disclosed this initiative during a meeting with party executives, local government chairmen, and political aspirants at the party's secretariat in Lafia on Sunday.

The registration process began immediately following the 2023 general elections, as the party aims to capture data required by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including national identification numbers and photographs of intending members. Ombugu expressed confidence that the party would successfully register no less than 50,000 members before the official closure of the registration portal.

He addressed rumors regarding a caretaker committee within the party, asserting that there is no provision for such a committee in the party's constitution and warned against attempts to create crises within the party. Additionally, LP senatorial aspirants Ayiwulu Baba Ayiwulu and Shehu Reuben assured their readiness to mobilize members for the upcoming elections.
