Lagos State Enhances Welfare for Workers and Retirees

Lagos State has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the welfare of civil servants and retirees through various initiatives aimed at improving their quality of life. Funmi Ogundar, a representative of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), highlighted the importance of prompt salary payments and health insurance benefits during a recent annual welfare program for retirees.

Toyibat Olona, the director of the teacher pension department, disclosed that the state has implemented several welfare initiatives, including a group life insurance scheme that provides beneficiaries with 350 percent of the deceased worker's annual emolument. The Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) continues to support workers with health insurance coverage.

The event also served as a platform for retirees to reconnect with former colleagues and share experiences. Retired head teacher Samuel Awoley emphasized the need for discipline and respect in education, reflecting on the significant role these values play in shaping students' success.
