FCT Minister Urges Pilgrims to Uphold Discipline for Hajj

On May 3, 2026, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), addressed Nigerian pilgrims at the inauguration of the flight for the 2026 Hajj operations held at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

She called on the pilgrims to uphold discipline, patience, and exemplary conduct, urging them to be worthy ambassadors of Nigeria. Mahmoud described the occasion as a logistical milestone and a deeply spiritual moment, marking the commencement of the Hajj exercise, which allows thousands of Nigerians to answer the divine call to perform this fundamental pillar of Islam.

She emphasized that the Hajj symbolizes faith, sacrifice, unity, and total submission to the will of Almighty Allah. The Minister urged pilgrims to conduct themselves according to the laws and customs of Saudi Arabia, stressing that their behavior should reflect Nigeria's image on the global stage.

She commended the leadership of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), particularly its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Ismail Abba Yusuf, and other stakeholders for their dedication to ensuring smooth coordination of the operations.
