Inaugural ABA League Launches in Abuja This Saturday

The inaugural Amateur Basketball Academies (ABA) league is set to commence on Saturday at the Mo Arena Gymnasium, Zone 5, Abuja. This pilot league will feature 20 boys' and 20 girls' teams competing across four courts at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Basketball courts, Package B, Abuja.

The opening day will see matches including TNT Boys against Suleja Bulldog and Smart Basketball facing Tigers Basketball, while the girls' matches include Queens court against One Ball and Dominion Basketball against Takers Basketball. Coach Adeka Daudu, the ABA technical officer, announced that 14 matches will be played daily during the first week, with quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals scheduled for the second week.

Aliyu Lucky Abubakar, President of the Amateur Basketball Academies and Deputy Comptroller of the Nigerian Customs Service, emphasized the importance of professionalism and cooperation among coaches to develop responsible young athletes. The opening ceremony will be attended by notable figures, including Minister of Defence General Christopher Musa and Chairman of the National Sports Commission Shehu Dikko.
