Maiduguri Varsity Student Wins 2025 Campus Journalism Award

Usman Bashir Abubakar, a 300-level student at the University of Maiduguri, emerged as the winner of the 2025 Campus Journalism Award (CJA) for his outstanding work in journalism. The CJA, which began in 2018, aims to recognize and celebrate excellence among Nigerian student journalists.

The award ceremony had the theme "AI: Future of Journalism" and received 350 submissions from 50 tertiary schools across the country. The event was graced by notable figures like Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace and Gidado Shuaib, the founder of CJA, who highlighted the importance of empowering young journalists to combat fake news and shape the nation's future.
