Abdu Maikaba Appointed New Coach of Flying Eagles

Abdu Maikaba has been selected to lead Nigeria's U20 male football team, the Flying Eagles, as the new coach, succeeding Aliyu Zubairu, who previously managed the team during the second round of the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile last year. Maikaba, a graduate in physics from Kano, has extensive experience in coaching various Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) clubs, including Enyimba, Kano Pillars, and Enugu Rangers, and has led Akwa United to a historic NPFL championship.

His first assistant will be Mondai Odigi, a coach with significant experience. In a related development, former Super Eagles stars Samson Siasia and Daniel Amokachi are among the candidates applying to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to lead the country's U23 Olympic team.

Siasia previously led the U23 team to a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
