Makinde pledges single four-year term, demands fuel pricing transparency
The APM presidential candidate told North-East stakeholders his administration would prioritize inclusivity and openness on petroleum costs if elected in 2027.
During a town hall gathering held in Yola, Adamawa State on Saturday, Seyi Makinde, the Oyo State Governor and presidential aspirant for the Allied Peoples Movement, pledged that he would complete his tenure in a single four-year period should he emerge victorious in the 2027 presidential election. The APM convened this strategic meeting to bring together party members and candidates in preparation for Nigeria's upcoming general elections.
Makinde characterized his proposed administration as representing a transitional model of national unity rather than following conventional electoral patterns. He underscored that bridging Nigeria's regional and communal divisions would remain central to his vision, alongside tackling urgent matters such as insecurity and poverty reduction.
The governor made clear his commitment to rejecting exclusionary political practices in exchange for inclusive decision-making structures. A prominent focus of Makinde's presentation involved scrutinizing how the present federal administration has managed petroleum affairs.
He directed his call toward President Tinubu's government, requesting that it disclose its petroleum pricing framework openly. According to Makinde, such disclosure would afford Nigerians understanding regarding the determination of fuel costs.
He maintained that when citizens and relevant parties gain insight into pricing dynamics, they can better contribute toward alleviating financial burdens. Makinde's comments further assessed several key initiatives undertaken by the Tinubu administration, including those related to compressed natural gas incentives, electric vehicle programs, the naira-for-crude arrangement, security efforts, and schemes targeting poverty elimination.
He contended that notwithstanding declarations by government officials about having effective answers to Nigeria's difficulties, these particular measures have not achieved substantive improvements for ordinary people. Through these remarks, Makinde sought to establish a distinctive political profile while cultivating backing across Nigeria's varied regions.
