Nabila Aguele Becomes First Africa-Based CEO of Malala Fund

Nabila Aguele has been appointed as the first Africa-based CEO of the Malala Fund, with her tenure set to begin on April 1, 2026. She takes over from Lena Alfi, who has served as CEO for nearly nine years until late 2022.

Aguele's appointment is part of a long-term leadership transition that underscores the organization's commitment to advancing girl education through locally-led solutions, especially in countries with high numbers of schoolgirls. Currently, Aguele serves as the Chief Executive of Malala Fund Nigeria, where she has led the organization’s efforts in the country, overseeing nearly $3 million in grants to local education advocates.

The Malala Fund has awarded $9 million in grants to 40 organizations across 10 countries in the past year to protect and advance girls' education. Malala Yousafzai, co-founder of the organization, expressed confidence in Aguele's leadership, citing her policy advocacy experience and understanding of grassroots change in girl education.
