Malami Accuses EFCC of Unlawful Property Seizure

Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney General of Nigeria, has publicly condemned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for what he describes as unlawful and unilateral seizure of his family's property located at 2 Coronak Crescent, Maitama, Abuja. Malami, who is currently facing charges related to money laundering and illegal possession of firearms, claims the EFCC acted without a valid court order, thereby usurping judicial functions.

On Tuesday, the EFCC forcibly evicted Malami's family from their residence, sealing off the premises based on a temporary forfeiture order linked to 57 properties allegedly acquired with illicit funds. Malami highlighted that the EFCC's actions are unprecedented in Nigerian history, asserting that the agency's unilateral steps undermine the legal process, especially since the matter is still pending in court.

He emphasized that such actions render the court helpless and violate established legal traditions regarding property rights during ongoing litigation.
