Malami Denounces EFCC's Unlawful Property Seizure

Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney General of the Federation, criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its unilateral and unlawful seizure of his family's property located at 2 Coronak Crescent, Maitama, Abuja. Malami stated that the EFCC acted without a valid court order, usurping judicial functions.

This action follows his family's arrest and arraignment on charges related to money laundering and illegal possession of firearms, to which they pleaded not guilty. On Tuesday, the EFCC invaded and evicted Malami's family from their residence, sealing the premises under the belief that it was linked to illicit funds.

Justice Joyce Abdumalik of the Federal High Court had previously ruled on an ex parte application for the temporary forfeiture of 57 properties linked to Malami. Malami condemned the EFCC's actions as unprecedented in Nigerian history, asserting that the agency's unilateral steps rendered the court helpless and violated established legal traditions.
