Malaysia to Launch Direct Recruitment Platform for Foreign Workers to Enhance Transparency and Cut Costs

The Malaysian government, led by Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan, is set to introduce a new digital platform for direct recruitment of foreign workers, aiming to eliminate the dominance of private recruitment agents. This initiative seeks to lower recruitment costs, prevent worker exploitation, and enhance transparency in the country's foreign labor market.

Malaysia heavily relies on foreign labor in key sectors like construction, manufacturing, plantations, and services. The current system, involving middlemen and agents, often leads to exorbitant recruitment fees and exploitation of foreign workers.

The proposed platform will enable Malaysian employers to directly connect with prospective foreign workers through a centralized digital system, displaying job descriptions, wages, and employment conditions clearly. This move represents a significant shift in Malaysia's foreign labor policy, offering a more transparent and cost-effective hiring process while providing greater protection for foreign workers.

The platform is expected to address the major weaknesses of the current recruitment system, where agents typically deal with employers, making it challenging to verify job terms and ensure proper communication.
