Bassey Eno Ibiang Allegedly Killed by Step-Brothers in Cross River

Bassey Eno Ibiang, a 46-year-old man, was allegedly beaten to death by his two younger step-brothers, Omini Eno Ibiang, 28, and Emmanuel Eno Ibiang, 26, in Egbizum community, Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State. The incident arose over accusations regarding a missing bag belonging to their elder sister.
The younger brothers allegedly tied Bassey’s hands and legs and beat him while accusing him of theft. Despite Bassey’s pleas of innocence, the beating continued until he was found lifeless by residents.
A local health worker attempted to revive him but was unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead on arrival at Ugep General Hospital. Following the incident, unrest erupted in the community as youths related to the deceased vandalized the family compound.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Eitokpah Akata, confirmed that the case was reported on October 25, 2026, and that two suspects had been arrested. Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, urged residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
