Cross River Man Arrested for Alleged Arson Incident

Bassey Ekpo, a 41-year-old man, was arrested by the Cross River Police Command for allegedly setting a house ablaze at 8 Miles in Calabar, the state capital. The incident was reported on Friday at the Ikot Omin Police Division by the house's occupant, Ekemini Stephen.

Police spokesperson Sunday Eitokpah stated that with the assistance of neighbors, Ekpo was apprehended and taken to the police station. During preliminary questioning, he allegedly claimed that he was sent by his 61-year-old mother, who is currently at large and has been identified as the alleged instigator of the arson.

The police have visited the scene to gather evidence, including photographs. Eitokpah confirmed that the investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to ascertain the involvement of other individuals.

The police assured residents that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
