Man Dies After Assault by Car Park Officials in Lagos

Opeyemi Lawal died after being assaulted by two car park officials at Marina Car Park in Lagos Island on Sunday. The incident arose from accusations of theft shared by Facebook user Sheriff Ojon.

Eyewitnesses reported that Lawal was tortured, suffering severe injuries from repeated beatings to his hands and legs. Despite pleas for his release, Lawal was reportedly insulted and denied help until he succumbed to his injuries.

Following his death, residents protested at the police division, demanding justice. A woman, whose name was not disclosed, shared that many residents pleaded for the officials to be released, while others showed images of Lawal's lifeless body with visible bruises on social media.

When contacted, Abimbola Adebisi, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, did not respond to inquiries. This incident is not isolated, as previous assaults leading to death involving park officials have been reported.
