Man Electrocuted While Vandalizing Enugu DisCo Substation

A man was electrocuted while attempting to vandalize the Akonobi 500kVA distribution substation belonging to Enugu DisCo in Enugu State. The incident occurred on Tuesday, as confirmed by Emeka Ezeh, the head of communications at Enugu DisCo.

The deceased, along with an accomplice, was reportedly trying to loosen two intermediate cables and remove a third when electricity supply was suddenly restored, leading to the electrocution. The body of the suspect was discovered within the substation premises in the early hours of Tuesday.

It is believed that the deceased was not acting alone, as the two intermediate cables were missing from the scene, suggesting that the accomplice fled. Ezeh expressed concern over the rising cases of vandalism targeting electrical infrastructure and urged residents to remain vigilant in supporting efforts to curb such activities.

He noted that these acts do not affect the company's operations or disrupt power supply to customers. The Nigeria Transmission Company has recorded 131 cases of vandalism across its network in 2025.
