Unidentified Man Electrocuted While Vandalizing Transformer

On March 17, 2026, an unidentified man was electrocuted during an alleged attempt to vandalize a transformer located at the junction of Prof. Ofili Ugwudioha Street and Ibuza Avenue in the Independ Layout area of Enugu State. The incident occurred in the early hours of the day when the victim, described as an artisan from Northern Nigeria, reportedly disconnected a riser cable linked to the transformer just as power was being restored.

Eyewitnesses indicated that the man had taken advantage of a prolonged power outage in the state to tamper with the electrical infrastructure. The victim's body remained at the scene for several hours before authorities were notified to evacuate it.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company has yet to issue an official statement regarding the extent of the damage to the transformer.
