Mob Burns Transformer Vandal to Death in Calabar

On March 10, 2026, a mob in Calabar burned an unidentified young man alive, accusing him of vandalizing an electrical transformer. This incident occurred on Palm Street near Target Junction and is the second such event in the area within a month, following a similar occurrence on February 10, 2026.

Eyewitnesses reported that members of a local vigilante group joined the mob in apprehending the suspect before he was set ablaze. When the police arrived, they confirmed the incident and found the burnt corpse in front of the transformer.

Items recovered from the scene included an old model electric meter box, pieces of copper wire, and electrical cables, indicating the materials used in the vandalism. The local government’s environmental health services were contacted to evacuate the body, and the police urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing that mob action is illegal and unacceptable.
