26 Feared Dead as Bus Plunges into Padma River, Bangladesh

On Wednesday afternoon, a tragic incident occurred in Rajbari District, Bangladesh, where a bus carrying 50 passengers fell into the Padma River while attempting to board a ferry. According to Dewan Sohel Rana, an official from the Fire Service, the bus was traveling from Kushtia District to Dhaka when the accident happened.

Immediate rescue efforts were initiated, with some passengers managing to swim to safety, while others were trapped inside the submerged vehicle. Emergency teams were deployed with rescue vessels, successfully recovering bodies throughout the night.

Local government administrator Sultana Akhter confirmed that the death toll has reached 26, with victims including 11 women and five children. Efforts are ongoing to determine the number of passengers unaccounted for, as many were believed to be returning to Dhaka following Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

Transport accidents remain a persistent safety challenge in Bangladesh, where thousands lose their lives annually due to road and water-related incidents.
