Marine Le Pen Awaits Court Ruling on 2027 Election Bid

Marine Le Pen, the leader of France’s far-right National Rally, is set to learn on Tuesday whether she can contest the 2027 presidential election, pending a ruling from the Paris Court of Appeal regarding her appeal against a ban on holding elected office. This ban stems from a March ruling that sentenced her to a four-year prison term, with two years suspended, for embezzling funds from the European Parliament.

The court found her guilty alongside 24 others for diverting European Parliament funds between 2004 and 2016. If the court upholds her conviction, it could significantly impact her political career and the party's chances in the upcoming election, potentially leading to Jordan Bardella, her protégé, being the candidate instead.

Le Pen has expressed readiness for any outcome, stating, “I’m not scared,” while her allies acknowledge that her ineligibility would be a significant setback for the party.
