FEC Approves N286bn for Maritime Infrastructure Projects

On a recent date, the Federal Executive Council (FEC), led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, approved maritime infrastructure projects totaling N286 billion. The projects, aimed at strengthening Nigeria's maritime safety and efficiency, include the acquisition of two marine pollution control vessels costing N59.05 billion, six pilot cutter boats valued at N80.03 billion, and two firefighting vessels worth N34.06 billion.

Additionally, the FEC approved a public-private partnership for the dredging of the Escravos channel, estimated at N112.85 billion. These initiatives are designed to combat marine pollution, improve navigation safety, and enhance operational efficiency in Nigerian ports.

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, emphasized that these investments will stimulate trade, create new opportunities within the blue economy value chain, and reinforce Nigeria's position as a competitive maritime hub in West Africa.
