Kano State to Screen 3,000 Couples for Mass Wedding

The Kano State Hisbah Board has announced the commencement of medical screenings for 3,000 prospective couples ahead of a mass wedding program. Sheikh Mujahedeen Aminudeen, Deputy Command General of the Hisbah Board, confirmed that the screenings will begin on Monday, June 8, 2026, across 24 local government areas in the state.

The couples, comprising 1,500 females and 1,500 males, will undergo mandatory health assessments to ascertain their health statuses. The screenings will include tests for HIV/AIDS, drug use, hepatitis B, and sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhea.

Couples must visit their respective Hisbah offices to register for the screenings, and those who fail to pass the health screening will be disqualified from participating in the mass wedding. This initiative, reintroduced by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, aims to address social issues, particularly prostitution and other vices among young women and girls lacking financial means for marriage.
