Nigeria Strengthens Defence Ties with Egypt in Visit

H.E. Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, led a high-level Nigerian defence delegation on a two-day visit to key defence industry establishments in the Arab Republic of Egypt.

This visit aimed to deepen bilateral defence cooperation, advance indigenous defence production, and strengthen Nigeria’s defence industrial capabilities. The delegation included representatives from various military and defence organizations, such as the Ministry of Defence, Defence Headquarters, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Office of the National Security Adviser, Defence Intelligence Agency, and the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria.

On the first day, they toured Eagle International for Defence Systems Company in Suez, examining defence systems and equipment. Dr. Matawalle emphasized the strategic nature of the visit, focusing on sustainable industrial partnerships rather than immediate procurement.

The second day involved discussions with the Egyptian Ministry of Military Production about establishing an ammunition production line in Nigeria, aiming for greater self-reliance in defence production.
