Kano Governor Investigates N1.5bn Salary Deductions

On May Day, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano announced an investigation into alleged salary deductions totaling N1.5 billion from state workers' salaries. This directive was issued during his address to workers at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

The investigation will particularly target former head of service Abdullahi Musa, with Yusuf emphasizing that anyone found culpable will face punishment, and efforts will be made to recover the deducted funds for the affected workers. Additionally, Governor Yusuf pledged to clear outstanding gratuities and death benefits owed to retirees, which amount to N32 billion out of a total of N48 billion inherited from previous administrations.

He promised to settle the remaining N16 billion by the end of his tenure in 2027. Kabir Inuwa, the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, commended the governor for addressing salary payments and retirement benefits but urged him to investigate the alleged N1.5 billion salary deductions thoroughly.
