UN Chief Guterres Warns Middle East at Breaking Point

António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, issued a stark warning regarding the Middle East, stating that the region is being pushed to a breaking point due to escalating conflicts, rising oil prices, and a widening humanitarian crisis. During a ceremony in Turkey, where he accepted an award on behalf of UN staff for their humanitarian efforts, Guterres emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire and a return to diplomatic negotiations to resolve ongoing conflicts.

He highlighted the severe impact of military actions, particularly the massive strikes launched by the United States and Israel, which have resulted in significant civilian suffering. Guterres pointed out that the consequences of instability in the Middle East are felt globally, affecting trade and energy prices.

He called for de-escalation and dialogue, stressing the importance of protecting civilians and adhering to international law. Guterres's visit to Turkey coincided with the holy month of Ramadan, reinforcing solidarity with Muslim nations.
