Media's Role in Nigeria's Environmental Future Highlighted

Balarabe Lawal, the Minister of Environment, highlighted the essential role of the media in tackling Nigeria's environmental challenges during a training workshop in Abuja. He urged for stronger collaboration between journalists and the government to improve access to information and data in the environmental sector.

Lawal described the media as an indispensable partner in reporting on climate change, biodiversity, ecosystem management, and natural resource management, which are vital for national development. He emphasized that the media should amplify the voices of society, bridge the gap between policy and the people, and help translate complex environmental issues into narratives that drive action.

Salihu Usman, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, and Bahijjatu Abubakar, the Director of Pollution Control and Environmental Health, also spoke at the workshop, stressing the need for collective action to address environmental challenges. Emmanuel Uwaegbu from Human Resource Management noted the importance of sustained commitment to environmental sustainability.
