ACMPN Cautions Medical Professionals on AI Use

The Association of Catholic Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (ACMPN) issued a communiqué urging medical professionals to exercise caution when integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into their practices. This statement followed their 20th annual scientific conference and general meeting, which hosted around 150 participants from various Nigerian cities, with Ibadan as the host location.

The conference theme was “The Catholic Physician in the Era of Artificial Intelligence,” featuring sub-themes on ethical considerations in AI and celebrating 21 years of ACMPN. The communiqué, signed by Prof. Hadiza Agbo and Dr. James Ojile, the National President and National Secretary of ACMPN respectively, warned against outsourcing human intelligence and compassion to AI.

It emphasized that physicians must uphold ethical and moral standards, guided by the bioethics of the Catholic Church, particularly concerning dignity of life and end-of-life care. The association also reiterated the importance of Naprotechnology as a natural family planning method.
