Mentally Challenged Woman Gives Birth by Roadside in Abuja

On April 3, 2026, at approximately 12:30 PM, a mentally challenged woman delivered a baby girl along the roadside in Kwaita Village, Kwali Area Council, Abuja. The incident was reported to the FCT Police Command's Rapid Response Squad, which promptly mobilized a team led by SP Josephine Adeh, who is in charge of the Gender Unit at the Kwali Division.

Upon arrival, the police found both the mother and newborn safe and immediately transported them to the General Hospital in Kwali for medical attention. Following treatment, they were discharged in stable condition.

Mr. Sadiq Kwali, the officer in charge of welfare for the Kwali Area Council, was involved in relocating the mother and child to the FCT Children’s Home in Wako, Gwagwalada Area Council, for proper care and support.

CP Ahm Moham Sanusi of the FCT Command commended the officers for their swift response and urged the public to report any individuals in distress, including those with mental challenges, to the nearest police station.
