MEPs Demand FIFA Probe Over Balogun Ban Reversal

European Members of Parliament (MEPs) have called for an investigation into FIFA regarding the recent overturning of a match ban imposed on Folarin Balogun, a USA striker. Balogun received a red card during a Round of 32 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, which led to a suspension that was later lifted by FIFA's independent disciplinary committee.

The ban's reversal followed a request from former US President Donald Trump to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who maintained that FIFA's judicial operations are independent and neutral. A total of 72 MEPs have sent a letter to European governing bodies demanding a probe into FIFA's disciplinary committee, claiming it violated international governance rules.

UEFA has already described the lifting of Balogun's suspension as "incomprehensible." Additionally, Laura McAllister, a member of the International Olympic Committee, expressed concerns about the implications of this case for human rights and fairness in sports.
