Kaduna Electric Disconnects Millennium City Amid Dispute

Residents of Millennium City in Kaduna State have urgently appealed to Governor Uba Sani for intervention following the disconnection of their power supply by Kaduna Electric on Saturday. The residents, represented by Shafik Muazu Shira, Chairman of the Ministerial Plot Housing Estate Residents Association (MPHERA), expressed that the disconnection has plunged the community into darkness, raising fears about security, especially at night.

They are not opposed to proper metering but are concerned about the proposed replacement of existing meters while a related case is pending in court. Shira urged Kaduna Electric to suspend the disconnection and comply with recommendations from the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), which had previously inspected the meters.

The blackout is impacting hospitals, businesses, and over 500 residents, with warnings that prolonged darkness could lead to increased criminal activities. The residents are calling for urgent dialogue to resolve the dispute while respecting the ongoing court process.
